We’re very happy to welcome Dr. Aidan Bharath to the FORCE team as our new Director of Science and Environmental Programs, starting in August!
Aidan joins us with a Ph.D. in fluid dynamics from the Australian Maritime College and brings extensive experience in wave and tidal resource assessment. His expertise in computational fluid dynamics will be especially valuable as we continue to model fish movement in Fundy’s tidal flows—critical for ensuring sustainable development.
“It’s an exciting time to be in the tidal energy sector: we have new technology on its way to FORCE, and new research to support it,” says Aidan. “And I'm doubly excited to return home to Canada and to the Bay of Fundy, where I began my studies at Acadia University and my work in tidal energy - it’s a full circle moment.”
He has previously contributed to pioneering projects on tidal flow prediction and turbulence impacts on tidal and wave energy devices. Most recently at the US-based National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Aidan focused on offshore resource assessment, data acquisition and control, industry innovation, and exploring how marine renewable energy benefits electrical grids and the growing offshore blue economy. Aidan aims to apply his expertise in analytical and practical research to benefit and advance the tidal energy industry within Canada and further establish FORCE as a pioneering centre for scientific research in this space.
“Dr. Bharath's arrival is great news for tidal energy in Nova Scotia,” says FORCE’s executive director Lindsay Bennett. "His passion for science and collaboration will be instrumental as we move new projects forward."
At FORCE, Aidan will play a critical role leading scientific research and environmental monitoring programs, establishing and strengthening partnerships, and supporting our mission to advance the tidal energy sector responsibly. Welcome aboard, Aidan—we’re thrilled to have you help guide the next chapter of tidal energy in the Bay of Fundy.
