Prepared by the Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq for the Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy, this Mi’kmaq Ecological Knowledge Study documents Mi’kmaq ecological knowledge, traditional and current use, environmental values, and cultural significance within the Bay of Fundy study area.
Designed and led by the Confederacy of Mainland Mi'kmaq's Mi'kmaq Ecological Knowledge Team, the study combines desktop research, Knowledge Holder engagement, site visits, and collaborative roundtable analysis. It describes the Bay of Fundy as a living, interconnected cultural landscape, where Mi’kmaw relationships to land, waters, species, tides, and seasonal cycles continue to guide harvesting, travel, stewardship, and the transfer of knowledge between generations.
The study provides important context for FORCE’s project planning, environmental monitoring, mitigation, and ongoing engagement with Mi’kmaw communities.
