Southwest Nova Scotia Tidal Energy Resource Assessment

This is an assessment of the in-stream tidal resources in Southwest Nova Scotia consisting of Shelburne, Yarmouth and Digby Counties. It included field work to deploy Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP) units to collect data in Petite Passage, Grand Passage, Digby Gut and a selection of sites from Shelburne and Yarmouth Counties. The outcome is an electronic data set and a report on the resource potential, including input from the local fishermen and communities. The work was conducted as a collaborative effort between Dalhousie University, Acadia University, Nova Scotia Community College and Fundy Tidal Inc.. The Resource Assessment incorporates all phases of small scale ocean renewable energy development for Southwest Nova Scotia for both pilot and commercial scale developments. Deliverables from the project include charts with information on current water use and areas of high velocity currents, recommendations for ADCP deployment locations and tide corrected high resolution bathymetry in GIS and latitude, longitude and depth formats.

A data package, consisting of ADCP, drifter and model output data, is available via Temporary License Agreement with OERA.
