This project's research goal is to design and test an innovative acoustic sensor system that will feature a wireless magneto-inductive (MI) communications link – to alert users in real time of the presence and location of marine mammals in high noise tidal environments.
The research entails a field trial in the Bay of Fundy to test the technology and collect data. The numerical modeling work and algorithm development will be supported using the new field data as well as existing data sets, leading to outcomes that will determine the effectiveness and success of the MI link.
